About the Program: Harris Health System Mentor Program is designed to connect newly diagnosed HIV patient with Mentor Volunteers. The Harris Health System Mentor Volunteers are very empathetic individuals who are knowleagable about HIV treatment as they have already experinced some of the ups and downs of HIV.  The Menotors give of their time and life experiance to suppport our pateints and help them feel informed, confident, and at ease about their treatment. The program is located at our Harris Health System Quentin Mease Clinic, 3801 North Macgregor, Houston, Tx 77004.

*If you would like to become at Patient Mentor at Thomas Street Clinic, Please complete the following:

1) Submit an online volunteer application:
2) Upon completion of the background check you will:
    *Create a Ready set account to upload all of the required immunization records: MMR, Varicella, and Tdap. If it is Flu season,                                      you will need to submit proof of your flu shot. More details are listed below.                                                                                                      3)You will set up a Ready set (instructions will be provided upon completion of the background check).                                                                    
 4) Sign up for an Occupational Health appointment to get your TB titer: Monday -Friday at 8am -2pm.  Appointments are at every hour on                   the  hour  8am, 9am, 10am. Once all of the above is complete, I will send you the instructions to complete your online volunteer orientation.
*You are cleared to start once all of the above requirements are met

Note: The vaccination requirements

  • Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) for volunteers born after 1957 - two doses or laboratory evidence of immunity are required.
  • Varicella (chicken pox)- two doses, laboratory evidence of immunity, or medical diagnosis of history of varicella disease are required
  • Pertussis - one dose is required.
  • Tuberculosis test - TB blood tests are provided free of charge through Harris Health Occupational Health Services.
  • Influenza - one dose is required annually September - March. Occupational Health Services provides flu shots free of charge during the flu season.
